In this area, where the seasonal regime of the scarce and discreet watercourses makes water such an important yet limited resource, the presence of more permanent points of water accumulation turns these spaces into essential ones. These become true hotspots for wildlife, especially during the harshest moments of summer. Despite their small size, this spot we are standing in is the only water accumulation area along most of the route, and also the lowest point in elevation.
It is an excellent place for observing amphibians, a faunal group often overlooked yet playing a key role in the conservation and balance of ecosystems. Their slimy appearance or the lack of knowledge of their biological cycles until recent times may have generated antipathy towards them, leaving them surrounded by a negative reputation. This has caused unjustified persecution, especially in rural environments.
