Old Railway Halt and Dehesa of Pedrosillo

Ávila

We finish the route at a site where history, nature, and the human shaping of the landscape converge. The old railway halt, a vestige of a network that was once key to the transport of goods and people, reminds us of the importance of the railway in structuring rural territories. Although it unfortunately remains unused today, its presence preserves the memory of a time when mobility was essential for the economic and social life of the area.

In this environment, we find the Dehesa de Pedrosillo, an archetypal example of the Mediterranean dehesa landscape. This agroforestry system, the result of centuries of sustainable management, combines pastures, scattered trees, and open areas. Traditional livestock use combined grazing with soil regeneration and nutrient enrichment.

The dehesa is not only a productive space but also an area of high ecological and cultural value. This site is an excellent example of coexistence between human activity and the conservation of the natural environment, showing how proper land management can promote biodiversity and sustainable development.
