Romanillos Bridge

Continuing along our route, we take a slight detour from the main path to reach this interesting construction: the Romanillos Bridge, a structure of possibly medieval origin, although built upon a traditional ford that had been used since earlier times. These kinds of crossings were essential for communication between villages and grazing lands, and their preservation is fundamental to understanding historical rural infrastructure.
The bridge spans one of the area’s seasonal streams, whose presence shapes the rhythm of the landscape. During rainy periods, the watercourse gains importance and sustains a small riparian ecosystem of great value. Poplars, willows, brambles, and aquatic herbaceous plants form a habitat favorable to birds such as the Cetti’s warbler, golden oriole, and grey wagtail, among others, as well as amphibians and small mammals. The convergence of cultural and natural elements makes this site a place of high scenic, educational, and symbolic value.
