The Adaja River is, without a doubt, the backbone of this area, and around it thrives one of the most biodiverse ecosystems found in the city and its surroundings. This is the riparian forest. It is a linear forest, confined to the banks and channels, with the presence of species whose roots show great tolerance to flooding and which quickly develop their leaf cover, forming true green walls.
In our case, we are in the middle stretch of the river, with little slope, sandy soils, and a strongly marked seasonal regime. This causes the dominant species in this space to be the White Willow (Salix alba), accompanied by ashes, poplars, elms, and elders as the main tree vegetation, which in some parts of the area is joined by marsh vegetation mainly consisting of rushes, cattails, and reeds. The large and varied amount of fauna that finds shelter or food in this environment makes it one of the points of greatest biodiversity in the city.
