Dehesa of La Palenciana

Ávila

"We are at the starting point of a route that has been traveled and used by humans for centuries, as this path follows the course of the Cañada Real Soriana Occidental, one of the main drove roads, created in the 13th century. It connects the province of Soria with that of Badajoz, covering more than 700 kilometers, and enters the province of Ávila from Segovia just a few kilometers from where we stand.

At this starting point, the Mediterranean woodland takes center stage, with the holm oak (Quercus ilex) as the main actor, but with a significant presence of undergrowth made up of aromatic species typical of these environments, such as French lavender (cantueso) and thyme, accompanied by brooms and other species that have adapted to the harsh conditions of the area: cold, hard winters with significant frosts, and hot, dry summers that test the resilience of the species growing here."
